Fa la la la la We are back from sunnyland (Florida)and I have organized the office to the point where finding pencils is possible. After the last month of craziness (art show, craft and art show, graphic novel preview) I am ready to hit the drawing board again.
'Tis the season to dust off the ol'blog, and post an illustration or two.
Stay tuned!

Oh Mr. Clunk

You are my best friend by far
With your arms made out of Slinkys
And your feet made of toy cars...
This is an 'oldie' illustration, but as I was organizing my files today, I came across him and felt like he needed a bit of blog-time. His coresponding song, 'Mr. Clunk', is brought to you by the Winnipeg children's band, Alphabet Soup (and the letter 'C').

After the show catch-up

Here I am, working at the computer, but not on any 'How I Contracted Hep C and Other Bedtime Stories' illustrations. Instead, I am catching up on all the Etsy and Christmas orders that came in while I was racing around trying to complete the illustrations for last Friday's showing. (Which was a lot of fun...people, food, illustrations and music by the newly-formed 'Izzy Art' and the pick-me-up tunes of Oh My Darling. If you have not gone out and picked up their sample cd, you really should. It is that good).
After all the craziness of the last few weeks, it is a refreshing break not to be drawing /editing anything to do with my graphic novel right now. I will start again in the new year. For now, I am on 'holidays' (of sorts) from it --
If you did not get the opportunity to catch the art opening last Friday, the illustrations will be up all week (12 - 5 daily) at the Edge Gallery at 611 Main.
I am also going to be posting many of the illustrations on my How I Contracted Hep C and Other bedtime Stories blog
So here's to a more relaxed Sunday, one of printing such sweet things as a curious giraffe and some equally curious hedgehogs. Enjoy!

A New Week
It is a new week, and at the end of this week (Friday) I will be hosting/displaying some recent work at the Edge gallery, so the next few days consist of editing and editing and, oh, editing.
Not so much fun. But, this upcoming Friday's preview presentation of 'How I Contracted Hep C and Other Bedtime Stories' should be lots of fun. There will be illustrations, there will be people, there will be food and drink...and of course, there will be the music of Izzy Art and Oh My Darling.
What more could you want?!
Hope to see you there!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

The days are starting to get shorter, the wind is a little stronger and today, there is a slight cover of snow on the ground. Yes, Christmas is coming!
You are invited to attend the Arts & Crafts show being held this Saturday November 28th from 10 - 4pm at 782 Main St., right here in good ol'Winnipeg. There will be music, food, and of course, artisans!
Doesn't everyone need a giraffe and some little bunnies in their home?
Look forward to seeing you there.

It's that time of year again -- Christmas lists! Why not give a gift that is unique and locally-made? Doesn't everyone need a giraffe and a few little bunnies in their life?

Fresh from the illustrator's desk

This morning I found myself, as usual, sitting in front of this screen, eating my breakfast. In this case, it was porridge with raisins-- not my favourite, but a better choice than the bread and cheese that I had yesterday. Ah, cheese -- my favouritist of favouritist food, and yet so full of phosphate...
But I do not intend to write about cheese this morning. No, I have other things on my mind today. If you have been reading this blog, you will know that I have a few art shows coming up (very quickly). The one that I feel the least prepared for (at this time) is my preview presentation of 'How I Contracted Hep C and Other Bedtime Stories' happening at The Edge Gallery on Dec. 4th. Lots to do!
So with that in mind, I did what all procrastinators like to do...I drew something completely unrelated to the show.
(Although I have to admit that my unrelated doodle did spark a renewed love for drawing, which is always a good thing)
Here it is, my first to-be-ongoing-until-Christmas sketch of the 12 days of Christmas. On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me: 12 birds a staring...
(And yes, I realize that it is not even December, the traditional month to start counting down to Christmas. Oh well. No one said that inspiration and reality should go hand-in-hand. Or maybe someone did, but I am choosing to ignore that and let those 12 birds stare to their hearts' content)
